We walked to the ruined village. |
After we returned from our walk it was quite sunny and warm; it felt properly like spring. Richard gave us the job of painting the front garden shed.
The paint. That I only managed to get one part of my shirt. |

Beautiful spring day here at Craigencalt. |
We worked on that all morning, all the while talking about different TV shows we liked and jobs we would like to have. I love discussing this kind of stuff with someone from another country and learning about their ideas and perspectives on said topics. It was a lot of fun.
After lunch, we put another coat of varnish on the window sills and moved more dirt and rocks.
Digging out all the dirt by the stone wall. |
We then worked on some fire wood chopping. The view from the sauna (where we were taking the chopped wood) is really great, so here are a few photos.
The farm. |
Then we spent the afternoon gardening with Adam. Hella was planting spinach, while I repaired the chicken wire fence. Then I was filling pots with sand, then manure, and planting cabbage. While we were working, Diana brought up a woman named Kendra who was a former WWOOFer here and is also from Rhode Island. We chatted a little bit and as it turns out, she is from South Kingstown, which is about 15 minutes away from where I live. Granted, Rhode Island isn't that big, but it's such a funny coincidence. What are the chances that we both chose this farm? It is indeed a small world.

By the end of the afternoon, my jeans were covered in dirt and my hands black with soil. The whole time, as I crumpled the manure into plastic planting pots, the birds sang and the loch sparkled. Beyond, the view across the forth was clear. It was an absolutely quintessential spring afternoon, and after we had finished up with work, I went for a quick walk. Which is code for picture time.

We then headed up to the tree house for dinner. Matty, the Australian guy, who I just learned is a male nurse, joined us. Adam made this really good pizza, and we all sat around and watched the BBC news. There isn't a TV up there, but Adam has a pretty nifty set up with his computer and a projector. Throughout the whole dinner, we laughed at the ruckus of the Parliament and tried to spot who looked the most bored. It really is good fun and I highly recommend to try it some time.
We came back down, had some tea, and watched an episode of Modern Family together. Another great day here on the farm.
Thanks for reading!
